CONMEBOL confirmed sanctions against Boca through an official statement on their website. The Argentine club have now been punished for racist and discriminatory acts performed by their fans.
This time the acts took place in their last game against Corinthians at La Bombonera, in the group stages of the Copa Libertadores. They will be fined 100,000 dollars.
The good news for Boca, despite this despicable situation, is that their stadium will not be closed and will be able to be used in the next few days, when Boca host Corinthians in the last 16 of the tournament.
This is not the first time that Boca have been sanctioned by CONMEBOL in the Copa Libertadores. Just a few weeks ago, the Argentinian team were fined for racist gestures performed by their fans in the stadium during the game against the Brazilian side.
With sanctions in between, Boca and Corinthians are preparing to face off in the last 16 stage of the competition. The first leg will be played 28th June in Sao Paulo, whilst the second leg will be a week later in La Bombonera.
