After reaching a verbal agreement earlier this week, Manchester City have submitted an official written bid for Chelsea's Mateo Kovacic, according to 'The Athletic'.
The outlet reports the offer is for £25 million ($31 million), and that both teams are working on finishing the negotiations quickly. Chelsea are looking to rebuild their midfield around Enzo Fernandez, and it's no secret that the Blues need to offload some players from their wage bill.
There have reportedly been no serious talks about renewing the midfielder, who has only one year left on his contract in London. The Croatian originally moved on a loan from Real Madrid in 2019, before signing permanently for five seasons.
Man City are facing some uncertainty regarding their midfield going into next season, with the possible departure of captain Ilkay Gundogan and playmaker Bernardo Silva a target of PSG, which makes the relatively cheap purchase of Kovacic look like a good deal for them.
